Part 3 Distorted Memories I inhaled the scent of mossy forests, sunshine, and wet rocks. I opened my eyes slowly. I was sitting on a dock.  My feet trailed in the pleasantly cool water of a lake.  Trees surrounded the body of water and spread out as far as the naked eye could see. I pulled off my sunglasses- which had traveled to the dream world with me- and was momentarily blinded by sunlight bouncing off the water.  I blinked away the iridescent hues and observed my surroundings more closely. I knew this place. Panicking, I dropped my shades and scrambled to my feet.  I was sprinting towards land, knowing my freedom depended on it.  

Part 2 An Unexpected Friend I woke slowly, yawning hugely and blinking my eyes blearily. When I realized where I was-rather, when I didn’t realize where I was- I tried to jump to my feet like an action-movie star. Three things stopped me; 1. I’m not an action-movie star- or a ninja- so jumping to my feet would take serious practice. 2. My legs were bound together just a tad too tight for my joints to bend, so my ankles just twitched a little bit, triggering a searing pain which forced me to clench my teeth and choke back a moan. 3.
